This past May, Service Experts Heating and Air Conditioning of Raleigh accepted a call from a man named Jimmy from the Raleigh metro who told Service Experts about a remarkable project he was working on for his neighbor Kyla.
Kyla Tracy is an exceptional 9 year old who was born with Osteogenesis Imperfecta, also known as brittle bone disease. She relies on a wheelchair to move around and her house was not wheelchair accessible, mainly due to the size of the wheelchair. When Jimmy realized the problem, he considered remodeling the Tracy family’s house to make it completely wheel-chair friendly. However, due to the age of the home, remodeling was going to be more work than he realized. Finding his way around the obstacles, Jimmy decided to try transforming the Tracy family’s carport into a wheelchair accessible living area, which would contain Kyla’s own bedroom, bathroom, playroom, and dining area.
Thrilled to have a working plan, Jimmy began contacting local businesses, including building supply companies, plumbers, and electricians and everyone said they would be happy to help and contribute services and supplies. He called Service Experts of Raleigh for the HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning) part of Kyla’s new mini suite. Our Service Experts team members went over to learn more about the renovation and were amazed by how smart and kind Kyla was and they determined they had to contribute.
Kyla’s father, Jared Tracy, said he had planned to pay for the $12,000 heating and cooling systems for Kyla’s new living area, but with the generosity of Lennox and RE Michel, Service Experts of Raleigh was able to give the Tracy family an invoice printed with the following:
“We are honored to present you with a complete heating and AC system at no charge as long as we can all have a hug.”
The staff at Service Experts of Raleigh were overwhelmed to help provide such a precious girl with a much-deserved place to live and get around in her wheelchair efficiently and safely. But there’s still more to do. Kyla’s family is working to purchase a wheel-chair accessible van to better transport Kyla and her wheelchair.
