What NATE Certification is and Why it Matters

November 08, 2016

Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning in Fort Lauderdale always tells you about how our service techs are NATE-certified, and while it sounds reassuring, what does it truly mean?

NATE is the acronym for North American Technician Excellence and, as mentioned on their website, is the nation’s largest certification organization for HVAC (heating, ventilation, air conditioning) and refrigeration technicians. The organization was developed by and has been supported by the entire HVAC and refrigeration industry but not all people in the industry are required to be certified through NATE. The certification is optional and technicians can provide heating, cooling, ventilation, and refrigeration services without being NATE-certified.

It’s important to Service Experts that our technicians are NATE-certified to ensure we are sending the most qualified and professional technicians into your home. To make sure technicians meet these benchmarks, the NATE-certification assessments validate real-world working knowledge of HVAC and refrigeration systems for technicians. The exams are knowledge-based tests that assess the technician’s knowledge of these criteria.

Since Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning focuses on the HVAC side of NATE-certification (not refrigeration), there are only certain areas applicable to our technicians. NATE assessment candidates may receive installation and/or service certification in one or more of the specialty areas listed below:

  • Air Conditioning
