Here's What to Do When Your Furnace Won't Ignite

February 23, 2017

We are making our way through the last of the weeks of winter but we still need our furnaces, especially during cool nights. Nothing is worse than laying down at night and realizing your furnace won’t start up. If your furnace won’t turn on, here are a few things you can check yourself before your call Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning.

Check Air Filters

You should replace standard air filters monthly. If you do not, they can get clogged, restricting air flow and resulting in a furnace malfunction.

Check Your Thermostat

See if turning the temperature up a few degrees will get the furnace to turn on. If the actual room temperature is higher than the thermostat, the furnace won’t run. Also, confirm the system switch is on “heat” or “auto.”

Check the Power

It may seem obvious, but verify the power switch next to the furnace is “On.” Even gas furnaces use electricity so verify the breaker has not tripped and that the power switch wasn’t accidently switched to the “Off” position.

If you check all these things and your heating equipment will still not turn on, give Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning a call at 954-736-4314 and we’ll come out and get you taken care of as soon as possible.
